Pueblo City – County Health Department
Design of a new 3-story 41,450 gsf facility for the Pueblo City-County Health Department. The new facility provides an environmentally-friendly ambiance for employees and general public in need of departments and programs that the serve the City and County of Pueblo. The facility was designed to have separate waiting areas for the many departments including a laboratory and isolation room for individuals who are in jeopardy of infecting others with virus or bacterial infections.
Great care was taken to choose “low VOC-emitting” paint, carpet and wood as well as cork, bamboo and other materials that give off no emissions. Ultra-low consumption water faucets and toilets were chosen as well as high-efficiency LED task lighting taking advantage of natural light from strategically placed windows that will lower winter heating. Xeriscape landscaping and porous pavers in the parking lot were incorporated into the design to assist with drainage and lessen heat island effects common to asphalt paving.
